Compatibility & transparency

Can I use another Tuner's ECU Tune while using Blink Tuning's ECU Tune?

Only one ECU tune can be flashed on a vehicle at any given time, and it is not recommended to be running over-the-counter tuning boxes over OBD at the same time as running an ECU tune - this can damage components of a vehicle's engine, but most likely results in triggering limp-mode to safeguard unstable calibration.

Can I use another Tuner's ECU Tune while using Blink Tuning's TCM tune?

You don't have to throw away your existing engine tune (ECU) to experience augmented transmission logic. Our standalone TCM maps are completely platform-agnostic, regardless who (or what) tuned your ECU. Whether you are running a generic box tune, an OTS file, or a custom dyno map from another tune provider, you can plug in our interfacing hardware, flash our standalone TCM tune, and unlock the advantages of our TCM tune without altering your engine's ECU software layer.

What differentiates Blink Tuning from others?

Blink Tuning provides the software AND the tune, we do not recycle tunes or maps done by other shops nor do we use other providers' software to perform our tuning, so we are not locked down to using their platforms & licensing and we aren't forcing our customers to do so either, just to have their own vehicles tuned.

Let's be transparent - We built our own system and designed calibrations for each car we support. This resolves the issue of having to pay third parties highly-restrictive license fees just to use a platform and additional fees to tune a vehicle the way we want - this is also why we sell our tuning packages at affordable prices, since we don't need to offset any extra costs for license fees to clients - they pay just the tune, like vehicle tuning is supposed to be!

Setup and installation

The OBD device isn’t detected.

Check that the device is fully inserted on both ends (OBD & USB), and vehicle ignition is ON. Install missing drivers on the computer if the OBD device still doesn’t appear. Also, make sure that a supported ODB to USB adapter is used, only USB 2.0-Compatible devices that support High-Speed (500kbps) CAN protocols with reliable link reliability is supported by our platform.

It is NOT recommended to use Bluetooth OBD devices for tuning & flashing operations due to reliability and risk of signal loss during critical tasks. Bluetooth is only supported when connected to a vehicle via an Android device (phone / tablet) for diagnostics, dashboards and logging - NOT for flashing.

My vehicle isn’t recognized.

Verify that your license is assigned to the correct VIN and that your ECU / TCM is supported. The ignition must be ON for detection and a stable internet connection is required for proper app synchronization to occur.

Flashing and calibration

The flash or ECU backup failed to complete.

A flash operation requires an engine to be in "ON" state, but IGNITION OFF (engine not running). Ensure battery voltage is above 12V, and try again. A flash can be retried via Safe Flash Mode. In order to lighten battery load during a flash, disable accessories like audio, lights and AC.

The car won’t start after flashing.

Use “Revert to Stock” in the app. Confirm the correct pack was selected from your available calibration files, and double-check your VIN. If the issue persists, contact us via email at [email protected] or using our contact form.

Performance packs

Can I switch between tuning packages?

Yes. You can update your tuning package's revision or upgrade to higher packages at any time (Stage 1 to Stage 2). Downgrades to lower tuning Stages are possible but not recommended, due to safety reasons and to prevent engine damage, since Stage 2 and 3 require a certain level of vehicle mods and possess specialized calibrations, which aren't made to run on stock / Stage 1 tuned vehicles). Users may revert to a previous tune if desired, or even stock, at any time, but again, you must take into account any vehicle mods that a stock ECU may not properly use and may cause vehicle damage.

Are revision updates free?

Yes. We periodically revise all calibration parameters and perform adjustments and tweaks where deemed relevant or optimal. All revision updates to any of our tuning packages on any of our supported vehicle platforms are free for all customers, deployed to user accounts and available to flash when users want the new calibration revisions. New customers always get the newest revisions.

Can I use Stage 2 with stock hardware?

No. Stage 2 is designed for vehicles with mild modifications, while Stage 1 is designed for stock or lightly modified vehicles.

Sound & Effect Features

Will burbles damage my engine?

No. All sound packs (exhaust burples etc) stay within safe ignition and fueling limits.

Can I disable burbles?

Yes. You can set burble intensity or turn them off through the app.

Licensing and accounts

What does VIN‑locked mean?

Licenses are tied to vehicle VINs and cannot be transferred or resold.

Can I use my license on multiple vehicles?

No. Each vehicle requires its own license.

What happens if I sell my car?

The license stays with the vehicle.

Hardware and device issues

My OBD device disconnects during flashing.

Keep your device (computer or mobile) awake, stay within wired range, and disable battery‑saving modes on the device, if possible. Make sure device drivers are installed / up to date and that there are no pending reboot on the device (computer or mobile). Use Safe Flash Mode to retry.

The device won’t connect / outdated tuning packages are shown in my account.

Ensure the vehicle is linked to your account, ensure your account is properly synced by logging into your account while connected to the internet. Unplug and replug the OBD device, and check for software & revision updates in the app.

Logs and diagnostics

How do I record logs?

Use “Start Logging” in the app, logs are saved automatically when logging is activated. Remember to ensure enough free space is available on the device (at least 4GB) for the local client-side buffer.

Log levels

Users with "Essential" Access get limited automated analysis. Users with "Control" and "Precision" accesses get human-readable output. Tuners get full analysis.

DTC and engine errors

All plans include trouble code detection (DTC) and clearing.

Tuning and customization

Can I edit my tune?

Essential: a tune can be adjusted at a minimal level.
Control: a tune can be adjusted within limited preset ranges.
Precision: a tune can be adjusted within extended preset ranges and controlled parameter access.
Tuner: full access within our safety calibration boundaries.

I want a custom tune.

Custom tuning is handled by certified and authorized tuners. You can request one by looking online or reach out to your regular tuner shop, requesting a Blink Tuning calibration through our Tuner Partnership Program - they can then contact us and we'll arrange the necessary. Our Tuner Repository is still in early stages and new Tuner Partners will be announced progressively as they onboard to our Tuner Partnership Program.

Safety and recovery

What to do after a flash?

After flashing a vehicle, it is recommended to let the car idle for a few minutes as the ECU performs initial baselines according to your vehicle specifics. The app performs this check automatically, prompting users when complete.

After adding mods to a vehicle, it is recommended to reflash your tune, so that the ECU can perform these calibrations and adjustments again.

What if something goes wrong during a flash?

The system includes automatic recovery, revert‑to‑stock, Safe Flash Mode, and ECU integrity checks. Our calibrations also include automated proactivity / reactivity scenarios (ignition safety, fuel cut).

Can flashing damage my ECU?

Not when using supported ECUs, supported hardware and following the app’s instructions and this FAQ.

How do I get new tuning package updates?

They appear automatically in your the app, under your account. *Internet Access required

Do I need to pay for updates to offered features?

No. Revision Updates to tuning packages that have been purchased are always free.
